South Korean manufacturer Samsung has unveiled the 4G-capable variant of its Galaxy S5 smartphone in the Indian market. The model has been priced at Rs 53,500 and will be available from July 20. Galaxy S5 4G is powered by a 2.5GHz processor quad-core Qualcomm 8974 Pro and supports eight 4G LTE bands. On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 variant earlier launched in India runs on a Samsung Exynos processor and can only download data via 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks, but not 4G. The new Samsung smartphone features Download Booster and Wi-Fi MiMo technologies. Download Booster lets users access 4G and Wi-Fi simultaneously to download data faster. The fifth-generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) technology, which "equips Galaxy S5 with two internal Wi-Fi antennas to double the connection and accelerate the speed of Wi-Fi," the company said in a statement.
Other features of Samsung Galaxy S5 4G include 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 1920x1080p resolution and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). The device comes with 16GB internal storage, supports 128GB microSD cards and has 2GB RAM. On the back is a 16MP camera with LED flash and 2MP camera in front. It can transfer data via Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 3.0, infrared and NFC. Powered by a 2,800mAh battery, this smartphone has a fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor. Asim Warsi, vice president - marketing, mobile & IT, Samsung India, said, "We expect the 4G version to catch the imagination of technology enthusiasts and professionals, who demand superior smartphones for their heavy multimedia content consumption." Samsung is providing all new and existing Airtel 4G subscribers 5GB of data free for two months with the purchase of Galaxy S5 4G. The South Korean company is also providing an upgrade offer of Rs 10,000 to allow consumers to buy the smartphone at a slightly lower price. India's 4G market is nascent, and Airtel and Aircel are the only two telecom operators that provide 4G services in India. Reliance Jio Infocomm has said that it will launch its 4G network next year. Apple iPhone 5S and 5C, LG G2 4G, Xolo LT900 and Oppo Find 7 are among the handful of 4G-capable smartphone available in India at present.
